Pediatric Dentistry

Making sure children practice optimum oral hygiene from a young age is vital. It helps them avoid some of the common oral conditions like cavities, malocclusion, gum diseases, etc. When it comes to taking care of children’s oral health, special attention would be required, which is why regularly taking them to a dentist is important.

Some of the services that we provide are cavity prevention, orthodontic solutions, monitoring the growth of the teeth, dental sealants, fluoride treatment, routine consultations, etc.

First dental visit

Parents should ideally schedule their child’s first dental visit when their teeth start to emerge. Our kid-friendly dentist will examine the mouth thoroughly and suggest suitable care instructions to ensure the teeth erupt without any complications. Further, we will also help you understand the best way to maintain their oral hygiene, brush their teeth, and also suggest a suitable diet.

How do sugary foods affect the teeth?

You may have heard about how sugary foods have to be limited to a minimum to ensure better oral health and keep dental concerns at bay. This isn’t due to the sugary foods themselves, but the residues left on the teeth after eating them. The mouth would be filled with thousands of harmful microbes that feed on the food residues left after having a meal. When your child eats sugary foods, such as chocolates, gummy bears, candies, pastries, etc., small residues may get left behind on the teeth, especially between the intersections and on the occlusal grooves. This can lead to cavities and gum disease, as the bacteria release toxic substances which erode the enamel and infects the soft gum tissues.

Hence, parents must make sure their children limit the consumption of sweet foods as much as possible. Even if they eat chocolates or candies, they must gurgle with water thoroughly to ensure no residues are left in the mouth. Also, practicing optimum oral hygiene by brushing and flossing twice every day is essential.

What are dental sealants and fluoride treatment?

Dental sealants are acrylic surface applicants used to protect and cover the occlusal grooves on the molars and premolars. This ensures the microbes and food residues do not get deposited in them, thereby eliminating the chances of developing tartar and cavities. Fluoride, much like calcium, is an essential mineral present in the teeth. It increases the teeth’ immunity to fight off cavities. If the teeth are susceptible to cavities due to a lack of fluoride, the dentist may suggest a fluoride treatment. In this, a topical fluoride gel is applied to the teeth and allowed to stay for a few minutes before being rinsed off.
