Teeth whitening is a simple and effective dental procedure that significantly enhances the aesthetics of your smile. The process is non-invasive, meaning it doesn't alter the structure or form of your teeth but merely bleaches the staining particles on the teeth' surfaces. We use a teeth whitening gel rich in hydrogen peroxide - a bleaching agent used in almost all teeth whitening products.
How is conventional teeth whitening carried out?
The dentist will conduct a thorough screening process which helps us understand whether or not you're a worthy candidate for teeth whitening. Some of the factors we look into are the extent of teeth discoloration, presence of cavities or gum diseases, prosthetic dental restorations, etc. Based on these, we will prepare you for the procedure.
Next, the dentist will clean the teeth thoroughly to get rid of the food residues and other debris from the teeth. A rubber dam will be placed on the teeth to cover the gums and prevent the whitening gel from coming in contact with the soft tissues. The dentist applies the gel to the teeth and spreads it evenly, which ensures a consistent level of whitening. The gel liberates oxygen molecules when activated, which penetrate the porous surface of the enamel and bleach the coloring particles. Based on the severity of the staining, we will repeat the procedure multiple times.
Can teeth whitening be done at home?
Patients who wish to stay in the comfort of their homes and carry out whitening on their own can use our customized teeth whitening kits. In this process, we will fabricate customized whitening trays using dental-grade plastic and provide them to you along with a teeth whitening gel. You can use them as and when you please at home. Clean the teeth thoroughly, apply a small amount of whitening gel in the trays, and place them on the teeth. The trays keep the saliva from coming in contact with the gel, ensuring a higher level of whitening.
What is laser teeth whitening?
Laser whitening is the more advanced form of teeth whitening. In this process, the dentist applies a photosensitive whitening gel on the teeth and activates it using an activating laser of the right intensity. Upon activating the gel, it produces a foam, which helps to speed up the procedure and provides better and more long-lasting results. Laser whitening is preferred by patients who do not like spending long hours in the dental chair or have a particularly busy schedule.
